Retired AF General Merrill McPeak has been making campaign messages for Barack Obama. He says that Obama has shown good judgement in that he opposed the Iraq War from the beginning while Hillary didn't, and Hillary didn't read the intelligence reports on Iraq. The truth is that the intelligence reports were somewhat inaccurate, but committed and knowledgeable Domocrats like Jay Rockefeller read the reports and voted to go to war. Obama didn't have access to the reports, so who knows how he would have voted had he had access? Most people in the world thought Saddam was developing WMD, and Saddam himself, after he was deposed, said he retained the capability, and would have started his programs again after the sanctions were lifted. And the guys Obama likes, Germany, France, and Russia were trying to get the sanctions on Iraq lifted. Are we to believe that Obama is so smart he knew the intelligence was wrong?
Most people probably don't know much about General McPeak. He was best known for designing his own uniform, which was something like that worn by South American dicators. He famously said, "If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you do good. If you do good, you are good. So, the only think you have to worry about is looking good." I always thought that typified the fighter pilot mentality.
Obama apparently believes the latest NIE estimate on Iran is correct, even though it is obvious that the estimate is not accurate, and was prepared by Democrat bureaucrats to embarrass the Bush Administration. (One of the most serious errors of judgement made by Bush when he took office was the thought that the Democrats would work with him. He should have purged the Democrats from the bureaucracy of the State Dept. and the intelligence agencies. NOt doing so has harmed the Bush Presidency, and the United States. Clinton fired the Republicans. Bush should have fired the Democrats.)
