Here is a good piece on the scintific and political situation regarding AGW. The Al Gore-James Hansen cataclysmic AGW hypothesis is not looking very good from a scientific viewpoint now, but the Politicians are just getting up to speed. THe carbon cap-and-trade scheme offers the opportunity for the government to select winners and losers that it has great appeal to politicians of all stripes, regardless of the evolving science:
