GE supported Obama and the Democrats, and they expect a payoff with the cap and trade bill. Immelt probably doesn't know or care whether or not the AGW hypothesis is correct. If he can get government regulations that aid GE, and thus his bonus, then he is happy. If the legislation destroys the economy it matters not to Immelt, since he will be doing fine.
