I have been hearing a lot on TV about ridiculously high prices people are paying for travel, accommodations, and tickets to the Superbowl. Building large stadiums for football teams does not do anything positive for the local economy. But it does provide a price gouging opportunity for hotels, restaurants, car rental agencies, stadium owners, etc. It also provides an opportunity for local politicians to hobnob with the rich and powerful. The hotel owners, restauranters and elected officials are influential people in local politics so it is really easy for them to get voters to tax themselves to build expensive stadiums for billionaire owners such as Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys.
