Supreme Court Justice Scalia recently opined that in the US we have too many lawyers. I agree with him. Ilya Somin explains that we have too many lawyers because we have too many laws. I agree with him also. We will soon reach the point that people are afraid to do anything because it may be illegal, or at least government prosecutors can make a case that it is illegal under some obscure and arcane provision of some law passed but never read by Congress. The Democrat's Healthcare reform and the carbon cap and trade laws currently under consideration will be the "straw that breaks the camel's back." After these laws are passed virtually all economic activity in the US will be illegal. Environmental groups will be able to sue all energy using enterprises, and shut them down. The government will selectively choose who can continue to operate, and who is put out of business. Innovation and entrepreneurship will cease. We will have a fascist government that will slowly grind down the economy as the Soviet Union did in the 1980's.
