Here is an interesting bit from Powerline about the continuing adventures of the mayor of Detroit:

The Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, was sent to jail today for violating travel restrictions that are a condition of his being free on bond as he awaits trial on eight counts of perjury and other felonies. The travel restrictions were tightened after Mayor Kilpatrick was accused of assaulting a sheriff's deputy who served a subpoena on him. Mayor Kilpatrick is a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention.

In May 2007, Kilpatrick received this glowing endorsement from Barack Obama, who called him a "great mayor" who is doing an "outstanding job." My favorite part is where Obama says that Kilpatrick "is going to be doing astounding things for many years to come:"

His Honor is under felony indictment for perjury and obstruction of justice and some other stuff. It seems two stripper friends of his were involved in a disturbance at a party with the mayor (his wife came home unexpectedly) and were later gunned down in separate drive-by shootings. Curiously, they were killed by bullets of a type only available to the police. The mayor then fired the two white policemen who were conducting the investigation of the shootings after they began to ask questions about the disturbance at the mayor's residence. The two policemen sued for being unfairly terminated. The mayor lied to the jury during the trial, creating new problems for himself (telling the truth also had some downside). (The policemen were awarded a few million dollars each by the jury.) Kwame hangs with a lot of Muslims. Newspaper reports do not state his party, which is a tip-off that he is a Democrat.
