There is a lot of debate about anchor babies now. The fact that 20% of the babies born in America have an illegal alien mother shows that something is wrong. One thing is that the Federal Government refuses to do anything about the situation. They refuse to deport illegal aliens unless they have a criminal record, and perhaps not even then. Back when the Constitution was written, or when the 14th Amendment was ratified, the politicians could not even conceive of the current welfare state that we have. It is insane for a welfare state to have no restrictions on immigration. I read that the only salvation for the social security program lies in the young people who come to the country illegally. I see no way that could be true. The people coming illegally are not well educated, so they will not earn large salaries, so their contribution to social security accounts will not be large. Eventually they will want to collect from social security. So the illegal aliens don't solve the social security funding shortfall, but rather just "kick the can down the road."
